Five boxers from a Northeast regional academy, including three from Manipur, have been selected for the national training camp ahead of Asian-level trials later this year, the academy announced. The selections continue the region’s strong track record in producing competitive boxers, a legacy closely associated with Manipur’s sporting culture.

Academy coaches said training had continued largely uninterrupted despite the conflict, though logistical challenges, including intermittent travel disruptions, had made competition scheduling more difficult over the past year. Several of the selected boxers train out of Imphal-based facilities.

The academy said it hoped the selections would draw renewed attention and funding to grassroots boxing programs in the state, which officials say have been underfunded relative to the sport’s success in producing national-level talent.
