The claim: On the night of June 30, videos began circulating on X and other platforms alleging that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army had advanced roughly 60 km inside Indian territory in the Taksing sector of Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh, with some posts claiming the PLA had set up camps and that authorities were suppressing the news. The claim spread quickly, amplified by accounts including one attributed to influencer Mohsin Kazmi, and triggered concern across social media about a fresh border incursion.

The facts: The claim is false. The Indian Army publicly dismissed the reports as “incorrect and without any basis,” and PIB Fact Check flagged the circulating videos as fake, stating plainly that the footage was “unrelated and not from the India-China border.”

Verification by fact-checking outlets, including Factly and The Quint’s WebQoof, traced the clips to three separate, unrelated sources: one video showed a Royal Thai Army training exercise involving NCO trainees of the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Regiment, originally posted by a Thailand-based Facebook page in June; two other clips showed Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur, filmed in an entirely different context; and a further video, separately debunked, actually showed security personnel managing crowds during the annual Hindu pilgrimage in the Baltal region of Jammu and Kashmir — roughly 3,300 km from Arunachal Pradesh.

None of the footage originated anywhere near the India-China border, and no credible source, military or civilian, corroborated a PLA advance into the Taksing sector.

Why it keeps happening: Fact-checkers who reviewed the episode noted it follows a recognisable pattern around periods of heightened India-China tension: old military footage, clips of troop movements from unrelated contexts, or foreign training exercises get recirculated with new captions claiming a fresh incursion. Arunachal Pradesh, given its shared border and China’s longstanding territorial claims over the state, is a recurring target for this kind of recycled misinformation.

The bottom line: There is no verified evidence of a Chinese military incursion 60 km into Arunachal Pradesh in the Taksing sector. The Indian Army and PIB Fact Check have both rejected the claim, and independent fact-checks have identified the source of each video in circulation. Readers encountering similar claims about border incursions should treat dramatic, uncorroborated footage with caution and check for confirmation from the Army or PIB before sharing.
