The All Manipur Students’ Union and allied Meitei student bodies have renewed calls for the reopening of key checkpoints along National Highway 2, the primary supply route connecting Imphal to the rest of the country, saying intermittent closures have driven up prices of essential goods in the valley.

Student leaders said fuel and cooking gas shortages in recent weeks have been especially disruptive, with some families reporting price increases of 30 percent or more for basic supplies. They have asked the state government to coordinate with central forces to ensure safe, continuous movement of civilian and commercial traffic.

District administration officials acknowledged supply disruptions but said security assessments along the highway corridor were still being conducted following recent unrest. No timeline for full reopening has been announced.
