The Manipur Legislative Assembly passed a resolution this week calling on the Union government to deploy additional central paramilitary forces along the buffer zones separating the Imphal Valley from the surrounding hill districts. Lawmakers who backed the resolution said existing troop levels have not been sufficient to prevent recurring incidents near the boundary.

The resolution, passed by voice vote, also urged the Centre to expedite construction of permanent security outposts in vulnerable border villages. Several legislators pointed to recent incidents, including the July arson at Kanto Sabal, as evidence that current deployments are stretched thin.

Officials from the Union Home Ministry have not yet responded publicly to the resolution. State officials said a formal request, along with a list of priority locations, would be forwarded to Delhi in the coming days.
