The Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal reopened this week for local league matches following renovation work, sports officials announced, marking a small but symbolically significant step toward normalcy for the state’s sporting community. The complex had been used intermittently for non-sporting purposes during periods of heightened unrest.

Local football and athletics clubs welcomed the reopening, saying access to proper facilities had been a persistent challenge over the past three years. League organisers said an abbreviated season would begin this month, with safety protocols in place for spectators.

State sports officials said the reopening reflected broader efforts to restore public facilities in the valley, alongside longer-term repair work still underway elsewhere in the state.
