Fact Check: Circulating List of ‘Banned Villages’ Traced to Unverified Social Media Post

Illustration: Sentinel NE

A list purporting to name villages where members of a particular community are barred from entering has circulated on messaging apps in recent weeks. Sentinel NE was unable to trace the list to any official government or security force document, and several villages named on the list disputed the claim when contacted informally through community networks.

The list appears to have originated from an unverified social media post with no clear author or sourcing. While informal access restrictions and no-go areas have existed at various points during the conflict, particularly near contested boundary zones, the specific formal “ban list” described in the post does not appear to be an accurate representation of the situation on the ground.

Officials said no such official list exists, though they acknowledged some areas remain subject to case-by-case security assessments.
